Three Tampere museum shops are now online
The Challenge
Tampere is Finland’s third largest city and also one of the most attractive Finnish cities for tourists to visit. Over the years, some visitors in the museums in Tampere kept asking for the possibility to purchase museum gift shop items online, but it wasn’t until covid pandemic close the museums altogether, that the idea started to gather momentum.
“We wanted to expand the ways we serve our customers and make gift shop items available also to those who cannot visit our museum in Tampere,” Vapriikki museum gift shop manager Saana Karlsson explains.
The Solution
The web shop project began in spring 2020 and a year later the joined web shop for Vapriikki Museum Centre, Tampere Art museum and Moomin museum was opened.
The web shop sells a limited selection of the same items of each museum that are available in their brick-and-mortar store.
“We decided to start with the most popular items, such as publications and many textile products related to the exhibitions,” Karlsson adds.
The shared stock is located in Vapriikki premises, where the orders for all items are processed and shipped.
In the future, there are plans to expand the selection to e-products, such as tickets, guides and gift cards.

The Results
The most essential requirements for the web shop shared by three different museums, was that it was easy enough to use and maintain, to avoid heavy and unfair workload for Vapriikki staff.
Karlsson is very pleased with the outcome. According to her Ceepos web shop has met their needs perfectly.
